pacific golden plover flock 01

Welcome back, adults.

Three juvenile Pacific golden plovers moved into my neighborhood in the autumn of 2015, and migrated away from Hawaii for the first time in April 2016.

Two of those birds returned on August 3, and the final bird returned on August 17. Those birds are now considered "adult" birds.

I'll be on high alert in the autumn in hopes to witness whether or not those adults will allow a juvenile to search for food in its territory.

Last year, a member of "The Elite Plovers" (a tight and intelligent flock of Pacific golden plovers) rejected one of those juveniles request to search for food in its grounds. An adult in the next block welcomed that juvenile onto its grounds, where they can be seen searching for food together until today.
