A persistent juvenile Pacific golden plover has been trying to make friends with The Elite Plovers (a flock of experienced adult plovers) for weeks.
I nicknamed that bird "Yakker" because it sounds like it's always complaining. It yaks when it lands, searches for food, and departs.
A few days ago, The Elite Plovers abnormally quietly warned each other about a Hawaiian hawk, leaving Yakker stranded to potentially experience that threat for the first time.
After Yakker survived that threat, it cried for about 30-minutes. Couch Potato (a member of The Elite Plovers) showed no compassion and chased Yakker away...
