El Niño brings desert-like humidity to Hilo.mojave desert 001

The 2016 Leap Day brought a record low relative humidity of 36 percent to Hilo, Hawaii, at 11:53 a.m. when the temperature was 87 degrees Fahrenheit. That's a 2016 record low for that location.

The last time that Hilo experienced humidity of 36 or lower was on March 3, 2010, during which the humidity dipped to 36 percent at 12:53 p.m. when the temperature was 87 degrees Fahrenheit.

As a comparison, the lowest humidity in Henderson, Nevada, was 15 percent when the temperature was 79 degrees Fahrenheit. That location is located in the Mojave Desert, which is one of the driest locations in North America.
