Hilo, Hawaii, experienced record breaking 90 degree (Fahrenheit) heat on March 8, 2016. This breaks the old record of 87 degrees set in 1986 (30 years ago).
The normal daily high for that day is 79 degrees; in other words, Hilo was 11 degrees warmer than normal.
As a comparison, Kailua-Kona (on the west side of the Big Island) reached a mere 84 degrees today.
