Governor David "Kermit Da Fog" Ige has been hiding over the past two weeks while our state is in a crisis due to the COVID-19 Delta variant.
Because he refuses to be a leader, yet another hospital in Hawaii (Straub Hospital in downtown Honolulu) is operating at up to 125% of its ICU capacity. Some of their staff are working 24-hour shifts. They're in disaster mode.
Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 for children are also on the rise, but due to patient privacy issues Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children couldn't reveal their statistics.
Due to this crisis, multiple public charter schools have switched to distance learning.
Unfortunately, the Hawaii Department of Education is run by pushover interim Superintendent Keith Hayashi who on Wednesday insisted that schools is a safe environment for students and staff.
As of this writing, 0% of elementary school children are vaccinated against COVID-19, as a comparison, 75% of Hawaii's 18+ population are vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one dose, yet the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations canceled their plans to reopen for in-person services with an appointment among those who are vaccinated.
