Can the sleepy town complete with lively towns?

Hilo, Hawaii has been nominated in Outside's fifth annual "Best Town Ever" contest. In the first round, Hilo will face Juneau, Alaska.

"Hilo and its surrounding villages are on the less-touristy side of the Big Island, which keeps its Hawaiian mom-and-pop shops and farmers’ markets authentic. It’s also greener—hedged by jungle waterfalls, cove beaches, and surf spots. And Hilo is only 45 minutes from hiking and biking in Volcanoes National Park," Outside described that location.[1]

If Hilo wins in the first round, that town will compete against: Flagstaff, Arizona; or Sheridan, Wyoming.

If Hilo wins in the second round, that town will compete against: Pagosa Springs, Colorado; or Ogden, Utah; or Santa Fe, New Mexico; or Las Vegas, Nevada.

May 6, 2015 Update: Hilo is taking the lead with 54.51 percent of the votes!

May 9, 2015 Update: Hilo has advanced to the second round and will face Flagstaff!

May 11, 2015 Update: Only a few votes are separating Hilo and Flagstaff!
